Thanks for your comment.

I think you have misunderstood what EROI for solar means. EROI is a measure of how much energy one has to put in in order to get energy out. For solar, you have to first mine the rare earth metals and other raw materials, then manufacture the solar panels, then transport and install them. All these activities require energy. It does not matter whether or not the sun's energy is effectively limitless. It matters that we have to expand a good amount of energy to convert sunlight into electricity. EROI measure the total amount of energy we have to spend compared to the total amount of energy we will get from it. The total energy we will get is limited because solar panels do not last forever. Their performance degrade over time and eventually, they break down.

I also wonder if you have misunderstood what I said about fusion vs solar. Here is the relevant quote: "But can fusion account for a significant enough portion of global energy consumption within the window of eight years given that it is still in experimental stage now? The odds are considerably less than even."

Finally, can solar energy alone solve the climate crisis? I argued that it cannot because as long as the imperative for infinite growth does not change, then no matter how "clean" an energy source is, the growing demand will eventually generate more carbon and other pollution that the Earth can sustainably absorb each year.
